Lesson Thirty-Two — Moses’s Sermon, Part 1
Focus of Lesson
This lesson focuses on the first part of the final sermon by Moses to the people of Israel.
Pre-Class Assignments
This MUST be completed before class.
- Read Deuteronomy 1-6 in your Bible.
- Moses summarizes the history of Israel in the beginning of Deuteronomy. In Acts 7, Stephen does the same. Your turn. You have 5 minutes to give a full overview of the history of Israel from Abraham through Moses.
- Memorize Deu. 6:4-8 (in your heart language).
- Answer the Study Questions from the Study Questions Book.
- Continue working on the Law of Moses Worksheet in Appendix II. As you are reading the text, build out step 1 on the worksheet assignment.
- Write a 75-100 word response to each of the following questions:
- There is a restatement of the ten commandmentsin Deut. 5 What are the differences between the two lists? Why do you think there are these differences?
Class Timeline (50 minutes)
- 2-3 Minutes: Opening Prayer led by students
- 3-5 Minutes: Bible Fluency Song, "Pentateuch" (to save time, this should be cued up before class).
- 5 Minutes: Quiz #30
- 5-7 Minutes: One student is randomly selected to give the story presentation.
- 15-20 Minutes: Discuss the following questions with the students:
- Let's look at Deuteronomy 6. Here you see the core of the Law repeated by Jesus (e.g. Matt 22:37), and the commands on living it out and passing it down to the next generation and the blessings and curses that will come from obedience and disobedience. How do these things apply to us today?
- How does Deut. 6 command us to pass the faith down to our children? How can it work out today?
- How does Duet. 6 command us to live our faith out in public? How can it work out today?
- How do you think the blessings and curses in this section apply to us today?
- 5-10 Minutes: Instructor closes with their feedback on the storytelling event and their own conclusions about key points raised during the discussion.
- 2-3 Minutes: Closing Prayer
