Lesson Seventeen — Passover and Exodus
Focus of Lesson
This lesson focuses on the Passover and Exodus from Egypt.
Pre-Class Assignments
This MUST be completed before class.
- Read Exodus 12:1-18:27 in your Bible.
- Prepare a story presentation of the story of the final plague, the death of the firstborn, and the Passover. Your presentation should be appropriate for kindergarten children.
- Memorize Exodus 12:12-14 (in your heart language).
- Answer the Study Questions from the Study Questions Book.
- Write a 100-200 word response to the following prompt:
- Compare and contrast the story of the sacrifice of Isaac to the Passover sacrifice and the tenth plague.
Class Timeline (50 minutes)
- 2-3 Minutes: Opening Prayer led by students
- 3-5 Minutes: Bible Fluency Song, "Pentateuch" (to save time, this should be cued up before class).
- 5 Minutes: Quiz #15
- 7-10 Minutes: One student is randomly selected to present the story.
- 15-20 Minutes: Discuss the following questions with the students:
- What do you think God's purpose in establishing the Passover ceremony was? Should Christians practice such ceremonies or create similar ceremonies? If so in what way and why?
- Discuss the comparisons and contrasts of the story of the sacrifice of Isaac to the Passover sacrifice and the deaths of the firstborn children. Thinking about archetypes, how do you think these stories apply to Jesus?
- 5-10 Minutes: Instructor closes with their feedback on the storytelling event and their own conclusions about key points raised during the discussion.
- 2-3 Minutes: Closing Prayer
