Lesson Sixteen — Plagues
Focus of Lesson
This lesson focuses on the first part of the Exodus of Israel from Egypt.
Pre-Class Assignments
This MUST be completed before class.
- Read Exodus 5:1-11:10 in your Bible.
- Prepare a story presentation of the plagues against Egypt. Present it as a drama with multiple characters. The entire class shall participate together.
- Memorize Exodus 10:1-2 (in your heart language).
- Answer the Study Questions from the Study Questions Book.
- Write a 100-200 word response to each of the following questions:
- Reading Exodus vv 4:21, 7:23, 9:13-16, 10:1, and skip ahead and read 14:4 and 14:17, what does it mean when God says that He will harden Pharaoh’s heart? Why does He say that he does this? What does this say about God’s sovereignty in His universe?
Class Timeline (50 minutes)
- 2-3 Minutes: Opening Prayer led by students.
- 3-5 Minutes: Bible Fluency Song, "Pentateuch" (to save time, this should be cued up before class).
- 5 Minutes: Quiz 14
- 7-10 Minutes: The entire class will present a drama of the plagues of Egypt.
- 15-20 Minutes: Discuss the following questions with the students:
- Reading Exodus vv 4:21, 7:23, 9:13-16, 10:1, and skip ahead and read 14:4 and 14:17, what does it mean when God says that He will harden Pharaoh’s heart? Why does He say that he does this? What does this say about God’s sovereignty in His universe? Is Pharaoh morally responsible for his actions if it is God who has hardened him? Why or why not?
- Bonus question if there is time. Was it right for God to kill the firstborn sons of the slaves who had no influence on Pharoh's decisions?
- 5-10 Minutes: Instructor closes with their feedback on the storytelling event and their own conclusions about key points raised during the discussion.
- 2-3 Minutes: Closing Prayer
