Lesson Twelve — Jacob and Esau, Part 2
Focus of Lesson
This lesson focuses on the final part of the story of Jacob and Esau.
Pre-Class Assignments
This MUST be completed before class.
- Read Genesis 31:1-36:43 in your Bible.
- Prepare a story presentation of the reunion of Jacob and Esau and all the ways Jacob demonstrated or failed to demonstrate faith in God's promises in this story.
- Answer the Study Questions from the Study Questions Book.
- Memorize Gen. 35:11-12 (in your heart language).
- Write a 100-200 word response to each of the following questions:
- In what ways did Jacob demonstrate his trust in God and in what ways did he fail to trust God?
Class Timeline (50 minutes)
- 2-3 Minutes: Opening Prayer led by students.
- 3-5 Minutes: Bible Fluency Song, "Pentateuch." (to save time, this should be cued up before class)
- 5 Minutes: Quiz
- 7-10 Minutes: One student is randomly selected to present the story.
- 15-20 Minutes: Discuss the following questions with the students:
- Looking at the story of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, how were their challenges in trusting God's promises similar? Why did they have this challenge? How does that apply to us today?
- Looking at the story of Dinah, what is the phrase / term we would use for what happened to her today? Was it Dinah's fault that this happened to her? What do you think of the two different response options (Isaac's vs her brothers)?
- 5-10 Minutes: Instructor closes with their feedback on the storytelling event and their own conclusions about key points raised during the discussion.
- 2-3 Minutes: Closing Prayer
