Lesson Eleven — Jacob and Esau, Part 1

This lesson focuses on the story of Jacob and Esau.
Pre-Class Assignments
This MUST be completed before class.
- Read: Genesis 25:18-30:43 in your Bible.
- Prepare a story covering the blessing of Jacob and Esau by Isaac.
- Answer the Study Questions from the Study Questions Book.
- Memorize Gen. 25:23 (in your heart language).
- Write a 100-200 word response to each of the following questions:
- How is it fair that God chose Jacob and not Esau. Is Jacob a better person than Esau?
Class Timeline (50 minutes)
- 2-3 Minutes: Opening Prayer led by students.
- 3-5 Minutes: Bible Fluency Song, "Pentateuch." (to save time, this should be cued up before class)
- 5 Minutes: Quiz
- 7-10 Minutes: One student is randomly selected to present the story.
- 15-20 Minutes: Discuss the following questions with the students:
- For the men - What type of father was Isaac? What were his failures as a father and a husband? How did this affect Jacob and Esau?
- For the women - What type of mother was Rebekah? What were her failures as a mother and a wife? How did this affect Jacob and Esau?
- How is it fair that God chose Jacob and not Esau? Is Jacob a better person than Esau? Which one would you choose and why?
- 5-10 Minutes: Instructor closes with their feedback onthe storytelling event and their own conclusions about key points raised during the discussion.
- 2-3 Minutes: Closing Prayer
