Lesson Eight — Abraham Called; Covenant Begun

Pre-Class Assignments

This MUST be completed before class.

• Read Gen. 11:27-18:16 in your Bible.
• Prepare a story presentation of the establishment of the covenant with Abraham. This presentation should be formatted for presentation to children in kindergarten. It should have some visual aids (e.g. pictures or puppets or video, etc). This will be done as a team of 2-3 people per team.
• Answer the Study Questions from the Study Questions Book.
• Memorize Gen. 12:1-3 (in your heart language).
• Write a 100-200 word response to the following questions:
• In the story, God makes a covenant with Abraham. Summarize this covenant's requirements and responsibilities. How do you think these apply to Christians today?

Class Timeline (50 minutes)

• 2-3 Minutes: Opening Prayer led by students
• 3-5 Minutes: Sing Bible Fluency Song Pentateuch through Deuteronomy
• 5 Minutes: Quiz #6
• 7-10 Minutes: One team is randomly selected to present the story.
• 15-20 Minutes: Discuss the following question with the students:
• Thinking about Abraham being the only family in his civilization to be a follower of Yahweh, how do you think that felt to him? How do you think it feels to converts today in a majority Catholic or Animist or Islamic tribe / region? What are the challenges Abraham faced? Are those similar to what converts today face?
• In the story, God makes a covenant with Abraham. How do you think this applies to Christians today?
• Compare and contrast the Bible story of Noah with the Quranic story. How are they similar and different? What does this say about the different relationship between God and man in the Bible vs the Quran?
• 5-10 Minutes: Instructor closes with their feedback on the storytelling event and their own conclusions about key points raised during the discussion.
• 2-3 Minutes: Closing Prayer
