Course Introduction

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an in-depth study of the people, places, events, and background facts of the Bible. We believe that the Bible is at its core a story that was told over a one thousand five-hundred year period by God to introduce us to His plan of salvation.

We believe that it is necessary for the student of theology and missions to first be well-versed in the story that God is telling. If one does not have an in-depth knowledge of the Bible, then theological training will be built on a foundation of sand and will be weak. By being fully saturated in the story and narrative of the Bible, one's theology will be directly grounded in God's story, not just philosophical ideas or proof texts.

The format of this course uses a reading of the Bible that follows the most likely chronological sequence of the story of the Bible. This means that often a lesson will take parts from multiple books. We have chosen this format to emphasize the narrative and story arc of the Bible.

Upon completion of this course, the student shall be able to describe the background and purpose of each book of the Bible, accurately re-tell the narratives of the Bible, summarize the teachings of the instructive portions of the Bible, and recite from memory key Bible verses.
